Unique Cooking Tips

If you like cooking we hope the next tips here will help you make your cooking time more happiness. So here they are :

How to tenderise meat :

  • Add a pinch of bicarbonate of soda to cooking meat
  • Use a combination of vinegar and lemaon juice mixed with a marinade and add to meat. Allow to marinate for at least 15 minutes
  • Marinate meat in yoghurt or papaya juice/puree
  • Tougher cuts of meat become softer the longer and slower it is cooked
  • You can also gently beat meat with a steak hammer

Next is the saving tips :

  • Overcooked or tough meat can be saved by adding liquid and cooking for a longer period of time
  • Shred overcooked meat and use for fillings for sandwiches
  • Slice overcooked meat and use as additional ingredients for soup
  • If the meat sauce is too salty, add chopped potatoes to absorb excess salt
  • Adding cream to a dish also takes away saltiness
  • Smoked salmon that is too salty should be soaked in milk for about 30 minutes.

Tips in cook vegetables :

  • Do not add salt to boiling water when boiling beans or pulses as this makes the beans hard and they will not absorb water
  • Never toss a salad in vinaigrette dressing until you are ready to serve as the lettuce will go limp
  • Overcooked vegetables can be blend with some stock for instant soup
  • Bicarbonate of soda added to boiling water when cooking green vegetables helps to keep the colour
  • For light and creamy mashed potatoes, warm the mlik or cream before adding to the mashed potatoes
  • A quick way of baking potatoes is to microwave them for 2 minutes and then placing in the oven to finish
